From Tattoo to Motorcycle: Creating One-of-a-Kind Custom Graphics

Some of our favorite projects start with a simple idea and turn into something completely unique. This recent motorcycle project was definitely one of those! Our customer came to us with a design that was especially meaningful to him: a cross from a tattoo he had recently gotten. He wanted to take that design and incorporate it into his motorcycle, but he also wanted us to get creative and build the rest of the look around it. Challenge accepted! Starting With Something Personal Instead of choosing a premade motorcycle decal or an off-the-shelf design, our customer wanted something that was truly his own. Using the cross from his tattoo as our starting point, our design team created a custom graphic package that would complement the cross while also fitting the style of the motorcycle. We incorporated bold red, orange, and yellow flames that flow throughout the bike, making the cross a focal point while tying the entire design together. The result is something you aren't going to see on another motorcycle because it was designed specifically for this customer and this bike. Designing Graphics for a Motorcycle Designing graphics for a motorcycle is a little different from designing graphics for a flat sign or even a standard vehicle. Motorcycles have curves, contours, hardware, separate body panels, and limited areas for graphics. A design might look great on a computer screen, but we also have to think about how it's going to look once it's actually installed. For this project, we designed the graphics to work with the shape and lines of the motorcycle rather than against them. The flames carry throughout different areas of the bike, including the front fairing, front fender, fuel tank, saddlebags, and rear storage area. From the front, the custom cross becomes the centerpiece, surrounded by flames that extend across the fairing and continue down the motorcycle. From the side, the flames add a bold pop of color against the glossy black finish. Every piece works together to create one complete look. It's More Than Just a Decal Projects like this are a great reminder that custom vinyl can be about much more than putting a logo on a vehicle.
