Consider working with multiple independent sign companies across the nation instead of relying on franchises for their expertise and consistency. Embrace the unpredictability and local insights that come with partnering with independent businesses, rather than being limited by the structure of a franchise. Enjoy the challenge of navigating differing ideas and perspectives from unrelated shops, and benefit from a more dynamic experience without the constraints of better communication that franchises may offer.

- Alignment of Objectives: Ensure that sales and marketing teams have shared objectives and targets, such as generating leads, nurturing prospects, and closing sales. Have open lines of communication within your POS or utilizing an application like Trello or Teams that will keep the departments aligned.
- Communication and Collaboration: Facilitate regular communication and collaboration between sales and marketing teams to share insights, feedback, and strategies. This will help to pivot strategies as needed to make campaigns more successful and brainstorm new marketing opportunities as sales teams see a need for them.
- Shared Metrics: Establishing common performance metrics and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) that both sales and marketing teams are accountable for achieving. Having a source report or utilizing existing platform metrics can be a great starting point.
- Lead Management: Implementing processes for lead generation, qualification, and handover from marketing to sales, ensure a seamless transition and optimal follow-up. To create a symbiotic relationship between sales and marketing, think of a funnel. The wide portion at the top is the foundation of marketing bringing in any type of lead, as the lead passes through the funnel the lead becomes more and more qualified until it’s closed by the sales team.
- Content and Messaging Alignment: Create and develop marketing materials, content, and messaging that align with the needs, preferences, and challenges of target audiences as identified by the sales team. Dive into your social media platforms. Analyze your following and see what target markets exist on each platform. Catering each message to resonate with its specific audience will drive more conversions.
- Feedback Loops: Establish mechanisms for gathering feedback from sales teams on the quality of leads, effectiveness of marketing campaigns, and customer insights to lay the groundwork for future strategies. Without this feedback, time and resources can be wasted efforts. Develop a process or procedure for consistent feedback to keep your strategy on track and successful.
- Technology Integration: Leveraging technology, such as CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems, marketing automation platforms, and analytics tools, to streamline processes and enable better coordination between sales and marketing efforts will help streamline your efforts. Do more with less and utilize tools that make your life easier. Don’t be afraid of AI to help generate content and ad images.
- Training and Development: Provide cross-functional training and development opportunities to enhance understanding and collaboration between sales and marketing teams. The more education available to these departments that helps them understand each other will help to align the team objectives even further.

Beyond Signs: A High School Intern Journey
May 8, 2024 by Mallory Lynn
27J School District hosted a speed dating style Internship interview process. Each student filled out a standardized “resume” and each participating business had a job description for their intern position. The potential interns from three separate 27J High Schools researched the companies prior to the interviews and selected 4-6 companies to approach as candidates.
Gavin was enthusiastically first in line to interview with us. He had done his research and was genuinely excited to learn more about the sign industry. “He was very well-spoken and forthcoming. He was easily my top choice.” said the interviewing Sales Manager. Liz Gutierrez.
A Leap into the Unknown
Stepping through the doors of the manufacturing company on any intern’s first day, they will be greeted by a symphony of sounds: the rhythmic clang of metal against metal, the low whirr of air compressors, and the occasional hiss of pressure.
It can be overwhelming at first, but amidst the organized chaos, is a thirst for knowledge. Every successful sign professional has an endless need for knowledge and Gavin fit right into that.
His mentors wasted no time in acquainting him with the intricacies of the sign manufacturing process, from the initial design phase to the final quality checks. The precision and skill required at every step is eye-opening to any employee, especially a young intern.
Learning by Doing
Gavin was eager to absorb as much as he could. From attending our Monday morning job status meeting, to learning how to apply vinyl and operate the flatbed, he was easy to train and retained the information he learned from week to week.
One of Gavin’s favorite aspects of the internship was the opportunity to get hands on. From assembling components on the production line to troubleshooting minor equipment issues, he was entrusted with tasks that made him feel like a valued member of the team.
Beyond the Shop Floor
Beyond the technical skills gained on the shop floor, we hope the internship also provided him with invaluable lessons in teamwork, communication, and time management.
We strive to teach the value of adaptability and flexibility. In a manufacturing setting where deadlines are tight and priorities can shift in an instant, being able to think on your feet and embrace change is essential. These soft skills are just as crucial to success as technical expertise.
A Journey of Personal Growth
As Gavin's internship ended, we could not help but reflect on how much he had grown, both personally and professionally, in such a brief time. What began as a leap into the unknown had blossomed into a journey of self-discovery and empowerment.
When asked what he learned from this experience, Gavin responded “Critical thinking skills and how to solve problems”.
In the end, it's not just about the products we manufacture, but the people whose lives we touch and the lessons we learn along the way. And for that, we are not only grateful for the opportunity to mentor Gavin, but also to be able to provide a steppingstone for more motivated, knowledge-thirsty individuals like Gavin to pursue their dreams through personal development.Beyond the Scoreboard: 6 Impacts of Signage in Athletic Departments

Everything, Everywhere, All at Once
Jan 5, 2024 by Dawn Homa
Vertical Markets: Extend your business operations to different vertical markets to tap into new markets and reach a broader customer base. Focus on 3 or 4 market segments to become the “expert” and “go-to” for these organizations. Attend their trade shows or events and create market collateral and advertisements specific to these markets. Diversification: Offer a wide range of products or services to cater to different customer needs and preferences, expanding your business's scope and relevance. Develop a cross-selling program. “If they purchased this... they may be interested in that” type of strategy.
Digital Presence: Establish a strong online presence through a user-friendly website, e-commerce platforms, and social media outlets to engage with a larger audience. Utilize a scheduling tool to broadcast everything, everywhere, all at once. Follow your customers and vendors and share their content. Also, follow your biggest competitors on social media to be able to keep tabs on what they are up to and what is working for them. Buffer is useful to post to multiple social media platforms at once and you can schedule in advance for holidays, special events and product rollouts.
Collaborations and Partnerships: Form strategic partnerships or collaborations with other people, businesses and organizations to increase your reach and access new customer segments. Get involved with your local Chamber, Economic Development and become present at key events in your community. If you are involved in a non-profit organization, make this known and share your experiences.
Innovation: Stay ahead of the curve by reading and learning what is new and exciting in your industry as well as your target markets. Introduce new products or services and adapt to emerging trends that can benefit your customers.
Customer-Centric Approach: Focus on delivering excellent customer experiences to build a loyal customer base and positive word-of-mouth, which can contribute to your business's omnipresence. Customers will pay more for exceptional customer experience.
Technology Integration: Leverage technology to streamline operations, enhance customer interactions, and expand your business capabilities. CRM Customer Relationship management software, online buying on sites such as Shopify, Tracking Software that notifies you when there is a review, news articles about you or your business, and even what your competition is doing. Talkwalker is what we use and just recently discovered that an article about our Hobo Boxer Rescue relationship was shared in a newspaper in France. (Read it Here)
Brand Yourself – most importantly brand YOU. Your personal-brand is different than your company brand. Distinguish yourself from others in your field. Your personal-brand statement has to be strong, short, descriptive, and catchy all at the same time. Years ago, I was discouraged from branding myself as “The Sign Lady,” having a separate personal-brand was not a “thing” ... We were ahead of the trend, and it’s paid off. So, find your personal-brand and not only market it but shout it from the rooftops!
"Everything, Everywhere, All at Once." takes time and effort. Businesses should carefully plan and take calculated risks to execute their strategies to create this type of presence. At the end of the day, whatever you employ, make sure you have a way to track your ROI so you can spend your time and money effectively as possible.

Quick Summary: How to Be "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once"
In a crowded market, simply "having a sign" isn't enough—you need a ubiquitous presence. Achieving business omnipresence means being top-of-mind for your customers across every possible channel. From high-tech digital scheduling to the "old-school" power of personal branding, a successful marketing strategy is about diversification, consistency, and a relentless focus on the customer experience.
Strategies for a Widespread Business Presence:
-Multi-Channel Synergy: Balance digital tools like social media and email marketing with high-impact traditional channels like billboards and local Chamber of Commerce networking.
-Vertical Market Expertise: Don’t try to be everything to everyone at once. Pick 3–4 specific market segments (like real estate or healthcare) and become their dedicated expert.
-Leverage Automation: Use tools like Buffer to schedule social media content in advance and Talkwalker to track your brand mentions across the globe.
-Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate with non-profits and other local businesses. These relationships build trust and expand your reach into new customer segments.
-The Power of Personal Branding: Your personal brand is separate from your company. Finding a unique identity—like "The Sign Lady"—creates a memorable connection that a corporate logo alone can't achieve.

Quick Summary: The Power of Networking and WBENC Partnerships
Meaningful business opportunities often start in the most unexpected places—even over a plate of cookies at a topping-out ceremony. For Signarama Brighton, being a Certified Women Business Enterprise (WBENC) isn't just a title; it’s a gateway to collaborating on iconic Colorado projects like the new National Western Stock building. This project serves as a reminder that the best business partnerships are built on trust, shared values, and genuine connection.
Key Takeaways for Business Growth:

When setting business goals for the new year use the 50/50 rule. Half of the goals should be attainable and the other half of the goals should be "shoot for the moon" type of goals. This approach aims to strike a balance between setting realistic, achievable targets and pushing yourself or your team to reach more ambitious objectives.
Set 2024 Marketing Initiatives
Setting effective marketing initiatives involves a strategic approach to promote products or services, build brand awareness, and drive business growth. Evaluate what worked well in the past and how you can recycle and reapply it in 2024. There's No School, like Old School!

Recently, we completed some stencils with our laser engraver for a catering company so that they could “dust” powdered sugar logos onto cupcakes. A relatively innovative use for a regular stencil.
Businesses are using stencils to “brand” their tools with their logo and information. Tools are the number one thing stolen from work trucks, so it is imperative to keep track of important business assets.
A movie set for Wise Guys was shown using stencils on a window to give a 1957 look to the graphics. Signspotter Greg Leming sent this snapshot of a downtown bar (the “Arnold’s” sign, top right) being temporarily transformed into “C.C. Bonito Italian Bread & Grocery”. This photo captures the Hollywood sign crew using paper templates to create the window sign.
NEON – Neon lighting debuted back in 1910 by a French engineer by the name of Georges Claude. As the years went on and as the sign industry grew, the popularity of neon signs declined due to safety concerns, inefficiency and expense. Now neon lighting has become a high-paid rare artistry, but the need for nostalgia is in demand. To meet somewhere in the middle LED tubing has been developed. It’s definitely not the exact same effect that neon gas lighting gives, but it comes close, is easy to service, more simple to maintain, and is energy efficient.
MAGNETS – The first classic magnets were developed in the late 1960s by Sam Hardcastle because the Space industry needed magnetic numbers and letters for visual tracking charts. Fast forward to the early 1990s several companies were creating these molded magnets for advertising and souvenir purposes.
Magnets have been used primarily on vehicles to promote the business name. But now cars and trucks are not manufactured with steel and the magnets don’t adhere. As a result, new ways to use magnets have emerged.
Now magnets are becoming increasingly popular in many forms of signage, especially when a section of a sign needs to be easily changed.
From employee-of-the-month signs (see our featured article on our own employee-of-the-month sign in Signs of The Times Magazine here) to vehicle magnets and ballot boxes to office suite signs, the use of magnet signs is consistently growing.
Modern problems often call for solutions that worked in the past. We often say “why reinvent the wheel?”

Quick Summary: Why "Old School" Signage Trends are Making a Comeback
In the sign industry, great ideas never truly go out of style—they just get repurposed. From the hand-painted look of the 1950s to the classic glow of neon, "retro" trends are resurfacing as modern businesses look for unique, high-impact ways to stand out. At Signarama Brighton, we combine these timeless aesthetics with modern technology to provide durable, efficient solutions.
3 Classic Trends Reimagined for Today:
-The Return of Stencils: Once a primary tool for vehicle lettering, stencils are finding new life. We use laser-engraved stencils for everything from "branding" job-site tools to prevent theft, to creative culinary uses like dusting powdered sugar logos onto event cupcakes.
-Modern Neon (LED Tubing): While traditional gas-filled neon is a rare artistry, LED neon alternatives offer the same nostalgic glow with better energy efficiency, lower maintenance, and increased safety for modern storefronts.
-Magnetic Innovation: Magnets aren't just for car doors anymore. With many modern vehicles moving away from steel bodies, we’ve pivoted to using magnets for modular signage systems, such as interchangeable "Employee of the Month" displays and flexible office suite signs.
SEO Keywords: Retro signage trends, LED neon signs Colorado, custom stencils for business, modular magnetic signs, Signarama Brighton innovative branding.
Looking for a Unique Way to Brand Your Business?
Sometimes the best solution is a modern twist on a classic technique. Whether you want a "1950s Hollywood" hand-painted look or a sleek LED neon display, our team has the tools to bring your vision to life.Finding the Best Location for your Banner
Oct 11, 2023 by Mallory Lynn
Tips on finding the Best Location for your Banner
Make it Visible – Placing a banner on the side of your building or under an overhang can greatly reduce the ability of potential customers to see this banner. You will need to make sure that your banner is located where it can be easily seen from the majority of directions and angles. Try it Out – Before you finalize your banner’s position, try hanging it from several different angles. Then, place yourself in your customer’s position. Is it visible from the road, or sitting in a car? Can it be easily seen from across the street in multiple directions? You will need to find the one location that provides the most visibility. Take some time with this step to make sure that your final location is the right location.
Remember the Elements – Weather can be detrimental to your new banner. If it is not secured properly, your banner may flap in the wind, making it unintelligible to passing pedestrians and vehicles. Make sure that your banner is located somewhere where there is at least some protection from the elements. If this is impossible, make sure that the banner is well secured and that it will not flap in the wind, obscuring the text.
Get Feedback – Try to find a few impartial friends to test-drive your banner. Ask them to walk and/or drive by your location and get their input on what they think of the banner. Ideally, do not reveal what your banner says to these test drivers. It is important to make sure that they are able to read the banner as they pass by. You know what the banner says and your brain may automatically fill in places that may not be completely visible. By conducting this test, you can make sure that everyone will be able to read your banner, regardless of whether they are walking or driving by.
Don’t Be Afraid to Change – If your banner is not performing up to expectation, a move may be in order. Try a few different locations at first, to see which one provides the desired effect. Once you have narrowed down your options, you will be able to select the best location for your banner, based on actual customer reaction. This step should be carefully documented to provide you with the most useful data.
---------
Quick Summary: How to Choose the Best Location for Your Banner
A custom banner is only as effective as its placement. To ensure your message actually reaches your target audience, you must consider visibility, weather conditions, and the perspective of passing traffic. The "perfect" spot is rarely the most obvious one; it’s the one that survives the elements and captures attention in seconds.
Top Tips for High-Impact Placement:
-Maximize Visibility: Avoid "dead zones" like deep overhangs or the sides of buildings that face away from traffic. Ensure your banner is visible from multiple angles and directions.
-The Driver’s Test: View your banner from a car’s perspective. Is it readable at 40 mph? Take the time to test different heights and angles before final installation.
-Protect Against the Elements: Wind is a banner's worst enemy. Secure your banner tightly to prevent flapping, which obscures text and causes premature wear. In high-wind areas, consider mesh materials or heavy-duty reinforcements.
-Get Unbiased Feedback: Ask someone unfamiliar with your business to drive by. If they can’t tell who you are and what you offer in 3–5 seconds, your placement (or your design) needs an adjustment.
-Be Adaptive: Don't be afraid to move your banner if you aren't seeing an uptick in traffic. Tracking customer reactions to different locations is the best way to find your "sweet spot."
