What Makes A Sign ADA-Compliant?

Signs need to be accessible to everyone. Including those with disabilities. There have been American Disability Act laws in place to make sure that all businesses are safe and usable for all Americans. There are a few rules when thinking about what you need to be ADA-compliant. Most of these laws all center around visibility. ADA signage requirements go beyond these considerations, though, as ADA signs also need to demarcate any permanent room, space, or feature, as well as serving clear wayfinding functions. You need to make sure these items match your ADA compliant Signs:

1. No Glare so everyone can read it no matter where they are standing. Matted signs are the way to go!
2. Where the sign is mounted is important. Make sure it's visible to everyone!
3. High contrasting colors so that everyone can easily see what the characters on your signage mean. While there is no hard or fast rule for this 70% contrasting is usually recommended.
4. Make sure all signs are accessible for those with visual impairments or blindness. Braille is important to have on each and every sign- especially safety signs!
