Dimensional Letter Sign for Strand Salon in Glastonbury, CT
Sep 14, 2026 by
For a salon, exterior signage should feel like an extension of the customer experience. Before a guest sees the interior or meets a stylist, the building sign begins communicating the personality of the business.
Signarama Newington produced and installed dimensional lettering for Strand Salon in Glastonbury, Connecticut. The finished sign uses refined individual letters mounted across the building’s dark upper façade, creating an elegant storefront identity that suits both the salon and the property.
Elegant Lettering Against a Modern Façade
The Strand Salon name is presented in a classic serif typeface with slender strokes and carefully spaced characters. This style gives the sign a polished appearance that feels appropriate for a beauty and personal-care business.
Bright metallic-looking faces stand out against the matte-black background while remaining consistent with the building’s restrained color palette. Rather than introducing additional colors, the signage relies on contrast, letter shape, and dimensional depth to attract attention.
The individual characters produce natural shadow lines behind and beneath the lettering. These subtle shadows become more noticeable as daylight changes, giving the sign visual depth that flat lettering would not provide.
Placement Planned Around the Architecture
The building has a strong combination of dark architectural panels, light brick, arched details, and large black-framed windows. The Strand Salon lettering was positioned within the upper sign band where it remains separated from the busier brickwork below.
Centering the name within this architectural section gives the sign room to breathe. The lettering is large enough to identify the salon from the parking area while preserving the clean, upscale look of the façade.
Spacing was particularly important for this project. Serif letters contain fine details, so the installation needed to preserve enough separation between characters for the full name to remain readable from ground level. The layout also had to appear balanced across a wide horizontal area without being stretched too close to the surrounding panel divisions.
Elevated Installation With Individual Components
Installing dimensional letters high on a commercial building requires the correct access equipment, a reliable mounting pattern, and careful field alignment. Unlike a single sign cabinet, each character is attached separately. A small positioning error in one letter can disrupt the baseline or spacing of the entire name.
Our installation team used elevated access equipment to reach the upper façade and place every component according to the approved layout. The letters were aligned across the sign band to create a straight, consistent presentation when viewed from the parking lot and Main Street area.
The absence of a visible background panel allows the building itself to become part of the sign. This direct-mounted approach creates a more architectural result and keeps attention on the Strand Salon name.
Connecting Roadside and Storefront Identification
Strand Salon is also identified on the monument sign at 2800 Main Street. The monument helps drivers locate the property, while the dimensional façade letters guide salon guests to the correct entrance after they arrive.
Using coordinated identification at both viewing distances creates a smoother customer experience. Visitors first recognize the business on the roadside directory and then confirm the storefront through the elevated building lettering.
Together, the monument panel and dimensional letters give Strand Salon a consistent presence across the property without repeating the exact same sign format.
