Custom Storefront Window Graphics for Sugar Bee in Riverside, CA

Sep 23, 2026 by Signarama Corona

Great storefront graphics aren't just about creating an attractive design. The materials, installation method, window orientation, sun exposure, and intended lifespan all matter just as much as the artwork.

Signarama Corona recently designed, produced, and installed custom storefront window graphics for Sugar Bee in Riverside, California. The project combined frosted window vinyl installed second surface (inside the glass) with cut cast vinyl graphics installed first surface (outside the glass) to create a clean, layered storefront appearance.

Because the storefront has a south-facing elevation with significant sun exposure, material selection was especially important. We selected professional-grade, durable cast vinyl for the exterior graphics.

The result is a storefront that provides privacy, reinforces the Sugar Bee brand, and is designed with the real-world environment in mind.

The Goal: Privacy, Branding, and a Professional Storefront

Sugar Bee wanted its Riverside storefront windows to serve multiple purposes.

The windows needed to provide additional privacy while also creating a branded exterior that would be immediately recognizable to customers. That meant finding the right combination of materials rather than relying on a single type of window film.

Our solution used two separate layers installed on opposite sides of the glass.

The frosted vinyl was installed second surface, meaning it was applied to the interior side of the glass. The cut cast vinyl lettering and graphics were installed first surface, directly to the exterior side.

This combination allowed us to create the desired frosted appearance while keeping the branded graphics crisp, vibrant, and highly visible from outside the building.

What Is Second-Surface Window Vinyl?

In the sign industry, "first surface" generally refers to graphics applied to the outside face of a window. "Second surface" refers to graphics applied to the interior side of the glass.

For the Sugar Bee project, we installed the frosted vinyl second surface.

Frosted window film is a popular choice for businesses that want additional privacy without completely blocking the appearance of glass. It creates an etched or sandblasted-glass effect and can help visually separate interior spaces from the exterior.

Second-surface installation also places the frosted film behind the glass, protecting that layer from direct contact on the exterior.

However, choosing first- versus second-surface installation isn't simply a matter of preference. The appearance of a material can change when viewed through glass, particularly when glare, reflections, tint, or other environmental conditions are involved.

That's why we evaluate the actual storefront and application before determining the best construction method.

First-Surface Cast Vinyl for the Branded Graphics

The Sugar Bee lettering and graphic elements were installed first surface on the exterior of the windows.

This placement keeps the branded graphics visually strong and prevents the glass itself from interfering with their appearance.

Because these graphics are exposed directly to the outdoor environment, choosing the correct vinyl becomes critical.

We selected cast vinyl appropriate for exterior exposure. That distinction is especially important on this particular storefront because of its south-facing orientation.

Why a South-Facing Storefront Changes the Material Decision

One of the details that can easily be overlooked when planning window graphics is which direction the windows face.

Sugar Bee's storefront has a south-facing exposure, meaning the graphics can experience substantial sunlight and heat.

Southern California's climate can be demanding on exterior graphics. UV exposure, heat, temperature fluctuations, and prolonged sunlight can contribute to fading, shrinkage, adhesive deterioration, and premature material failure when the wrong vinyl is selected.

This is why Signarama Corona considers environmental conditions when recommending materials.

The cheapest vinyl that looks good on installation day isn't necessarily the right vinyl for the project.

For Sugar Bee, we used durable cast vinyl for the first-surface graphics because the application called for a material designed to perform in demanding exterior conditions.

Cast Vinyl vs. Calendared Vinyl: Why Does It Matter?

Cast and calendared vinyl can both be useful signage materials, but they aren't necessarily appropriate for the same applications.

Cast vinyl is generally a premium option designed for applications where dimensional stability, conformability, durability, and long-term exterior performance are important.

Calendared vinyl can be an excellent and economical solution for many flat-surface, short- and medium-term applications.

The key is not automatically choosing one over the other. It's selecting the material that matches the application.

Factors we consider include:

  • Indoor versus outdoor installation

  • Expected lifespan

  • Direct sunlight and UV exposure

  • Window orientation

  • Surface temperature

  • Flat versus curved surfaces

  • Required conformability

  • Brand color requirements

  • Removal expectations

  • Overall project budget

For a sun-exposed exterior application like Sugar Bee's first-surface storefront graphics, the additional durability of cast vinyl made it the appropriate choice.

Why Material Selection Matters for Commercial Signage

Customers understandably spend a lot of time thinking about what their signage will look like.

Our team also thinks about what happens after installation.

A graphic can look excellent when it's first installed but still be the wrong solution if the material isn't appropriate for its environment.

Poor material selection can contribute to problems such as shrinking edges, discoloration, adhesive failure, lifting, cracking, fading, or premature replacement.

Choosing the correct material from the beginning helps protect the client's investment and contributes to a more professional result over the expected life of the graphics.

This applies not only to storefront windows but also to vehicle graphics, wall wraps, building signage, floor graphics, dimensional signs, and other commercial signage applications.

At Signarama Corona, details matter. Material selection is one of those details.

Designing Storefront Graphics as a Complete System

The Sugar Bee project also demonstrates why effective storefront graphics should be considered as a complete system rather than as individual decals.

Our in-house design team considered how the frosted background and cut vinyl graphics would interact visually once installed on opposite sides of the glass.

The objective was to balance privacy and branding without making the windows feel unnecessarily cluttered.

Storefront window graphics can be used to communicate:

  • Business names and logos

  • Products and services

  • Hours and contact information

  • Promotional messaging

  • Privacy

  • Decorative branding

  • Corporate colors and graphic elements

The strongest storefront designs prioritize information so customers can quickly understand who the business is and what it offers.

Professional Production and Installation

Even the correct material won't perform as intended if production and installation aren't handled properly.

Window graphics require accurate measurements, clean production, careful positioning, and appropriate installation techniques.

This becomes even more important when multiple layers or installation surfaces are involved.

For Sugar Bee, the second-surface frosted vinyl and first-surface cast vinyl graphics needed to work together as one finished storefront design.

Our team handled the project from design and material selection through production and professional installation, giving us control over each stage of the process.

The Right Material for the Right Application

The Sugar Bee storefront project in Riverside demonstrates an important principle of professional signage: the material behind the design matters.

In this case, we combined second-surface frosted vinyl with first-surface cut cast vinyl graphics to achieve the desired appearance while accounting for the storefront's significant southern sun exposure.

That type of planning is part of what clients receive when they work with an experienced full-service sign company.

At Signarama Corona, we don't simply ask what a sign or graphic should look like. We consider where it's being installed, how it will be exposed, what the client needs it to accomplish, and which materials are appropriate for the application.

From custom design and material selection to printing, production, and professional installation, our goal is to create storefront graphics that look professional on installation day and are built with their real-world environment in mind.

If your business is considering storefront window graphics, frosted vinyl, window decals, or a complete storefront branding package in Riverside, Corona, or the Inland Empire, Signarama Corona can help you select the right combination of design, materials, and installation methods for your space.
