The elevator mural is a picture of CCU students enjoying the sunrise at Frontier ranch in Buena Vista, Colorado.  The new student retreats happen every year at CCU to open the year with our new student class and it is a tradition to climb to the cross and watch the sunrise.  The picture itself portrays the sense of community that CCU students feel which has always been our hallmark on campus—that students feel a part of a greater Christian community here.  I knew that this picture, covering the elevator of our newest residence hall, where 300 students would live, would give the sense of community and home that I wanted portrayed right away to the students moving in, and subsequently, for students throughout the year. It is a regular stop on our campus tours for prospective students as it gives the perfect message of who CCU is.

After we knew what we wanted in the new lobby we also put together a list of all the branding we wanted to create in the new hall display.  Since Signarama Brighton previously worked in the new Student Life Center, I knew just who to call.  Very quickly Dawn at Signarama Brighton caught our vision of uniqueness of the project and the importance of signage for the new building.  We ordered the etched CCU Cougar logos for the exterior doors, scripture verses in vinyl to install throughout the halls on more than 20 different walls, scripture verses on the ceilings in each floor lobby, and finally, the 10ft by 40ft wall mural of the Colorado Mountains and the unique elevator covering of the new student retreat.  As always I was very impressed with Dawn and her team who were truly excited to create this community environment for 300 students in our new residence hall.  Everyone work together and shared ideas which made this project a success.

As the day of the big dedication came closer, we noticed that we had submitted a wrong word in one of the scripture verses in the lobby. Not wanting this to impact the dedication, Signarama Brighton turned around the correct word in just one day, just in time for the opening.

New buildings are opening almost every year, and we are truly excited to work with Signarama Brighton to help create a new inspiring Student Center next year.
