The construction and surface of the wall make a big difference in how the letters are applied. Since you probably already know where you want the letters to go, it's up to the installers to come up with the installation method that will give you the cleanest and best results.
For vinyl wall letters, we have to take into account the paint finish of the wall, as some paints do not accept vinyl very well. Specifically, matte, satin, and scrubbable paint have problems. The chemical makeup of these paints can cause the letters to adhere improperly and fall off.
The best results come from high gloss paints. In some cases, we may need to paint the spot with high gloss paint in order to help the wall letters stick. If the wall is newly painted, it's important to allow the walls to cure for a few weeks before we apply the wall letters.
There are also speciality vinyls we can use if the wall has a problematic finish. This vinyl sticks to just about anything, including the wall board when it comes time for removal. Needless to say, we only use this vinyl as a last resort, especially if you know it's going to stay in place for a long time.
Some wall letters are even made from the same repositionable vinyl as our regular repositionable wall graphics, and can easily be moved and re-applied elsewhere, as long as its within three years.
For stud-mounted or anchored lettering, we’ll want to know about the finish of the wall: Is it an eggshell, gloss, or semi-gloss finish? What is the wall made out of, drywall, wood, brick? W also need to know what's behind the wall. Are there studs or an empty cavity? Is the wall insulated? Do you have wood or metal studs, or is it concrete or brick?
Knowing the wall's composition helps us decide what kinds of materials, anchors, and fasteners to use. We’ll help you every step of the way in getting your design mounted properly on your wall.
